Sunday Funday! Chest and Back... I am very much looking forward to my rest day tomorrow... My body is down right banged up after the last four days of training... Today I got in some posing after my training session... Although it went pretty good, my quads were so sore from yesterday and I was having some trouble getting some good contractions on this... I'll have to wait til Tuesday to take the edge off a bit, then back to the grind!

Tuesday... Back at it... for the first time in a long time I think I could have used two rest days in a row, but I gathered my thoughts and powered through a great leg day and posing session... I can't be resting... I'm just too close to the show...
On deadlifts, I went back to the traditional grip along with longer pauses when the weights hit the floor... I found this to make it a lot tougher and was only able to close out at 300 for reps of 10... As I've said before, I don't care about the weight... I care about isolation and making it look the way it needs to look in order to be successful on stage... My posing sessions went well, probably the most grueling session I've had thus far... I was pretty depleted when it was all over, but satisfied with how things are shaping up... I respect the science, but I try not to get so caught up in the science that I forget about the grind... Today was arm day... Super Sets! A slight increase on most of my lifts, but the reduced rest time made for a great session and a great pump! Standing curls, last two sets at 125lbs for 10... skull crushers with 35lb dumbbells last two sets I hit 20 reps... Arms are gonna be damn sore tomorrow!
Today I was inspired as I shared the gym with my long time friend and fellow competitor Josh Black Axis Labs Sponsored Athlete.... I know that we're both chomping at the bit to get on stage and he looks great! Definitely gave me some motivation today...
I know we'll go head to head at some point this spring, but I have nothing but respect for him... We have always supported one another and that's what the sport is all about... I don't have time to pick apart what people are doing... Let's all train our asses off and let the judges sort it out... This is Bodybuilding, not molecular astrophysics...sigpicDarren Conroy

I've been slacking a little bit on the updates as life has been quite busy as of late. Nonetheless I've still bee pushing the iron! I slightly tweaked my upper back and although it is only a minor setback, it is still something I need to take seriously as another wrong move and I'm off stage for the season... Don't get me wrong, I still have my heart and soul put into this, but I make sure to take my logic along with me... Gotta train hard and smart if you want to progress...

It was another great day on the iron.. Hammy's, Calves and Abs... I had broken even on Dead's vs last week and I was a little disappointed that I hadn't made any progress, but this game is a process and you can't always make strength gains.. especially while on a contest prep diet... I'm not too worried about it... my pump was great, cuts are starting to come out nicely and most importantly, I feel good! I can't say the same for last year...
I'm ready to tackle this season mentally and physically... Just like every bodybuilder, I have good days and bad days... but this year the best part is I feel that I look very consistent.. No surprises...sigpicDarren Conroy

Wednesday... Arm day... Riddled with super sets... Today I went through every Bicep / Tricep exercise as a superset with very little rest... the pump was awesome! I can only hope a get a pump just like it some May 3rd! I was dead even on most of my lifts, which I actually thought was good considering I was cutting my rest times down... I had to bypass the posing today as I had a chiro appt and a haircut... just trying to get whatever edge I can before we have to submit out 12 week transformation pictures... Happy Sunday! I'm gearing up for the last day of my training week.. Chest / Back... Yesterday I had one of those leg days that left me completely wrecked! Box Squats, Super Sets, Drop Sets, you name it, I did it and now I'm sore as hell... Am I complaining, absolutely not... If I didn't feel this way, I would be bitching for sure! Today was a busy day! All tanned up for a photo shoot which actually turned into a pretty good workout... It actually made me pretty sore.. After the shoot was over, it was a little late to get the lift in and the weather was awesome.. So the top went down on the mustang and I went to the track for wind sprints and stadium stairs... I am not officially wrecked! just under 4 weeks out and implementing sprints and intervals on the stairmaster... Time to tighten things up!sigpicDarren Conroy

Back at it with what turned out to be a great arm day, followed with a great posing session... Smashed the weights and then went through some posing drills.. My legs are very sore from yesterday and I went at them again... My legs will make the difference between winning and losing in my mind... I know the judges are looking for progress, especially with my legs... That said, I will be on them for the next 3 1/2 weeks and they'll be popping when it's showtime! I went through bicep, tricep exercise today as a super set and I'll be hurting tomorrow.. Tomorrow is Calves, Abs and then intervals on the stairmaster... Boom!sigpicDarren Conroy

A couple of great training days as I approach the three week mark... Thursday I trained Calves and Abs and then intervals on the stair master... Friday was a nasty shoulder workout filled once again with supersets and then a tri set on the delts.. Another weak point in my opinion is my delts and I feel that incorporating a little muscle confusion never hurt.. And then today.. Leg Day! I thought it was going to be a tough one after I was already gassed after my two warm up sets, but then I realized that I only have two more of these days left until showtime and that was all I needed! I quickly found the motivation I was looking for.. I jumped right back into the fight... Heavy squats, hack squats / lunges superset, followed by two drop sets on the leg extension and the adductor machine... Somehow I still managed to scurry up some energy to put a beat down on the calves and abs a well... Today's workout was a 10! Things are tightening up... 3 weeks!sigpicDarren Conroy

Sunday Funday! Chest / Back and quarter turns with Josh Black... Let's just say that my body is all banged up from the last 4 days of training, posing and cardio... I enjoyed the epsom salt muscle relaxant bath that I had...
I am now just under 3 weeks out and I am feeling very satisfied with how things are going.. This sport will test your will power, strength and mental toughness.. This year I have been tested.. More so than previous years... I'm not sure why.. Maybe it's the competitors, the fact that I'm getting older, or maybe its the combination of things... I missed my daily gym report yesterday, but I will say this, I can barely walk as a result of my leg day... Dead's wiped me out! 225x15, 275x15 and then 325x10... then stiff legged deads with dumbbells, a dropset on leg curls and a double drop set on the adductor machine... The usual beating on the calves and abs followed by three sets of quarter turns...
Today was arm day and once again up on lifts, gradually getting stronger every day... I didn't pose today as I saved what little energy I had left for intervals on the stair master... Damn, I hate that thing! Two and a half weeks... I'm nervous, excited, stressed.... All of the above... I honestly don't know what I'll do if I get the overall... After a great rest day of doing absolutely nothing, I returned back to the office with a Hamstring, Calf and Ab workout that I will not forget! Up on my dead's AGAIN! Today took a bit longer than normal as I was still hurting for energy.. The diet is finally starting to get to me just a little bit... But I did receive some great words from people that we're noticing that I was indeed close to the stage... I'm going to take this positive energy all the way to showtime with me...
