Tonight's workout was one of those workouts that's going to make it extremely difficult to get out of bed tomorrow... I absolutely smashed my traps and delts! I have been waiting for one of these workouts for some time... Although, my training days are usually very good, this particular session was one that I'll remember for some time and I have a feeling it will continue to remind me for the next few days... In the end, it's all about having a goal, a vision, a passion and the need to do whatever it takes to be the best! If you're going to set out to accomplish something, give it everything you've got! There's no reason to half ass it, you'll never be satisfied... Always give 100%

Arm day! Another PR as I utilized the 130lb dumbbell for overhead tricep extensions as I squeezed out 8 reps... Starting to notice a good steady increase in strength and you know what? I LIKE IT!! Great pumps have been following... I think that I'm finally starting to get some good gains since my competition season... The Controlled Labs Blue Gene has been really nice to my joints during this process as well... I'm really hope it helps ease some of the pain in my left knee.. We'll find out tomorrow as it's Leg Day!!sigpicDarren Conroy

Last night I tried something new on Leg Day... it was a training technique called DTP, this training style consists of extremely high volume and very little rest time in between sets... High volume to the tune of 50 to 85 reps... I'm used to heavy weight and reps no higher than 15 so you can only imagine what a change this was for me... I competitive juices were flowing in the beginning but were quickly wiped out as after about 20 minutes my body was completely rejecting this new training style... Once this happened, I get very frustrated as I don't like it when I can't accomplish something... At that point I had to say FUCK IT and convince myself that I WILL power through... I did just that.. I have been in this game for a while and have never felt that uncomfortable in the gym before and about two hours after my workout was over, I quickly realized that I wanted MORE! I will embrace this new training style as I know it will give me the wheels that I have been longing for! It's always amazing when you can go into the gym and learn something new about yourself.. I did just that and I'm glad that someone out there was able to break me down... Sometimes you have to get your ass kicked ever now and then if you want to get better!sigpicDarren Conroy

Today's chest workout was good, lots of flys and then a nasty DTP Pyramid set on incline press to end the workout... 40, 30, 20, 15, 20, 30, 40... I have a sneaking suspicion that I will feel the effects of this tomorrow as my legs are still very sore from Friday's activities... Oh yeah, I also beat the hell out of my calves again today and even though yesterday was supposed to be a rest day, I went in a beat on the Calves... They should be good and sore tomorrow... I refuse to be that guy that's plagued by weak areas.. I want someone to look at me and think, damn, he's pretty complete and will be extremely hard to beat on stage.. That's the plan and I'll be banging away everyday to make it a reality! The true test in this sport is mentally accepting the fact that it takes time to get the results you want.. and if you're not willing to work for it, then you're just gonna have to live with being normal... I got a pretty late back workout in last night and was quite pleased with the results... The place was pretty empty towards the end of my lift so I was able to hit some poses without feeling like a db... I love hitting a lat spread on back day and seeing the progress...
I have finally reached my rest day and I'm making the most of it as training Calves and Abs on Saturday, didn't really seem like much of a rest day so I had been at it for quite a while without a breather... Training lately has been very good, my body has been very sore and I'm hoping to get some good off season gains... No I won't get burnt out, because I have not won the title that I have longed for... Losers get burnt out... Champions keep their eyes on the prize and work their asses off until they win!sigpicDarren Conroy

Great day back in the house after a much needed rest day yesterday... Traps and Delts... High volume, lots of isolations, lots of reps and lots of determination... I have an image instilled in my mind of how I was everything to look... sometimes on days when I get those REALLY good pumps, I see that image becoming more of a reality... Although there is still so much work that needs to be done, but I believe in my ability and I know that I won't let myself or anyone around me down... Yes, it is an addiction, but it's healthy and keeps me motivated, inspired and believing that I might be able to do something I never thought I ever could... Arm day today... Great sets, great pump and lots of energy... As I crossed paths with a guy at the gym that isn't exactly a friend.. It's not that we dislike one another, I just think that circumstances made it so we'll never really understand one another... I'm never above giving someone the benefit of the doubt, but sometimes things just don't workout that way... Oh well, you can't please everyone, but you can be humble, work hard and let haters, hate... I guess I should be glad that I have as many supporters as I do and trust me, not a day goes by that I don't think of how grateful I am... What a weekend! I hope everyone had a safe 4th of July Holiday... Mine was great as I spent some much needed quality time with my family.. No complaints!
One thing that I am pretty proud of is the fact that I didn't have a drop of alcohol over the entire weekend and I actually got some pretty good lifts in... I actually had to take today off from the gym as my whole body is pretty sore... I actually think that I'm going to jump on the bandwagon tomorrow and train chest.. Damn... Two great training days back to back!! Today I riddled my back with some intense supersets... Supersets means a great pump and today it was just that! I managed to once again max out the seated row and the hammer strength row for reps... I love it when folks these days come up and ask me what I'm training for and I tell them next spring... lol.. I know, it makes me sound crazy... but the fact of the matter is, when I'm back stage pumping up, getting ready to make that stride for the pro card, I will think to myself, what could I have done different? When could I have pushed harder? When could I have been better? How can I be the BEST! That time is now! Always 100%!sigpicDarren Conroy

Another great weekend in the books! Friday nights late night gym session was a great first day back on the wheels after two weeks off with a tweaked quadricep... The lift was slow and steady with some hack squats, leg press and then some extensions and curls... just enough and very controlled... I followed it up with a nasty day on the mountain with sprints... After that, my legs were absolutely trashed!
Today I trained Chest and Calves... A great superset with presses and flys on the incline bench, followed with some pec deck flys and cable flys... The usual torture on the calve to start the week.. They'll get hit three more times this week as I want them to GROW! Body is feeling great and lifts are on point! Hope everyone had a great weekend!sigpicDarren Conroy

Back to the Meridian Axiom for one nasty session of the traps and delts... I even stuck around and punished the calves! I incorporated a great tri set this evening with dumbbell press, dumbbell extensions and laterals 4x10, 10 and 10... followed by reverse grip pull down to isolate the rear delts... shoulder pump was great tonight!
This evening I had a chance to look back on my last broken relationship. Although it was quite some time ago, it still left a pretty nasty gash on the ol ticker... Nonetheless, I was able to reflect on the time since then and how much stronger I've grown since those days... I thought that it would be hard without her and now I realize that I am 10x the person without her in my life... I was able to successfully take all of the negativity from that experience and turn it into something great! It's almost as if it gave me that push I needed to become who I am today... The phrase "breakups make bodybuilders" isn't too far off from the truth! I guess in the end, I should be thanking her for helping me kick it into that high gear... And now I'm sure you're looking at things and kicking yourself... Oh well, all I can really say is life is good on this end and it's only going to get better.. Cheers!sigpicDarren Conroy

Another great, busy weekend down... Damn, they seem to go by faster and faster... I took Friday off and hit the weights hard on Saturday and today... I am starting up with a new split and throwing my body a few curveballs... I'm pretty excited to see the outcome...
Saturday I went at the legs... I completely forgot about my injury and managed to get in a really good session in.. Started with heavy squats, then "Greg Plitt" walking lunges, Alternate leg press and finished with a Leg Extension Drop Set... I'm back to Quads, Calves and Hammy's, Calves on separate days.. I'm going to give each alternate muscle group a look on opposing days though and they will get worked with no more than 3 days of rest in between... It's time to make them HURT!
Today I trained Chest and Back... Heavy weight with some good super sets... I sweat my ass off today and feel pretty much wrecked right now.. I'll be rightfully resting tomorrow as my body will need it... Tuesday will be Hammy's, Calves and Abs... Already excited!!! New split, new look, new motivation!
Someone approached me in the grocery store this weekend and asked me what my secret was... I said "it's simple actually... I just go to the gym 5 days a week and give it everything I've got! No secret pill... Eat Clean and train til you want to either pass out or throw up... It's actually pretty addicting"... Maybe I made a new gym addict today.. Who knows!sigpicDarren Conroy

Although my legs were still very sore from Saturday, I stuck with the plan and beat the hell out of them again! Tonight my legs were left asking me "what the hell are you doing?!" I simply ignored the pain and marched on! Hack Squats, Lunges, Dead Lifts and Leg Curls (for the girls).. haha.. I want everyone to mirin the hamstrings next contest... I can't wait to see how my body takes to this new routine! I will be back for more on the wheels on Friday... Tomorrow I'll be back in the house for some Delts, Traps and Calves... Legs... Again! Another crushing victory on the wheels! I will require some ice on the knees this evening, but nothing serious... Today I started heavy on the hacksquat for 7 sets of 7, then moving on to walking dumbbell lunges, single leg press, leg curls and extensions... Boom! I also hung around for some work on the calves and abs, but need to figure out how to implement these areas on different days as I feel that I'm spending too much time in the gym, not getting much needed calories... this process is ongoing and I will continue to experiment until I get it to a point... All in all, my body is wrecked and I am going to spend the rest of the evening relaxing... I've earned it...sigpicDarren Conroy

What a great weekend! I took Friday off and then slammed the wheels on Saturday, followed by chest and back today... My legs are getting stronger and my knee pain is subsiding... I feel good and I'm continuing to lift heavy... Today's workout started out a bit rocky, but I found it and ended up with a great pump, a great sweat and I am down right tired this evening... Tomorrow is another off day and I'll be hitting up the Chiro, then meal prepping... 8 Months til Showtime! Crazy how fast this time will go by and we'll be back up on stage!
