Dubai tower now world's tallest building

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) -- Developers of a 1,680-foot (512 meters) skyscraper still under construction in oil-rich Dubai has claimed that it has become the world's tallest building, surpassing Taiwan's Taipei 101 which has dominated the global skyline at 1,667 feet (508 meters) since 2004.

The final height of the Burj Dubai is being kept secret. It currently stands at 1,680-feet.

The Burj Dubai is expected to be finished by the end of 2008 and its planned final height has been kept secret. The state-owned development company Emaar Properties, one of the main builders in rapidly developing Dubai, said only that the tower would stop somewhere above 2,275 feet.

I've been there (military)... it's a very clean city. All the shopping malls have exclusive / limited edition shiat that we don't get over here. The taxi cabs are Mercedes

yeah, they are the only smart country in the middle east (besides israel), they actually use their oil money to build up their economy instead of building palaces for their king all over the country. (they are building a dubai land there, which is their version of disney world)

I've been there as well, it is sweet. I actually really like it when I go to Dubai, one of my favorite places I have been to. I've actually been there 3 times and it's great. We stay at the Burj Al Arab, the hotel that is shaped like a sail. Place is fucking awesome!

LOL yeah it is really expensive. My dad own a engineering consultant firm and does a ton of work all over the world, and he has a few big projects over there(in Dubai) right now. All the expenses are reimbursable to the client and he puts us up there. Seriously I've never seen people throw so much money around, the only place that comes close is when I get to go to Moscow. They spend and spend also but the city is no where near as nice as Dubai.

I love seeing the world (never been to Russia)... I'd like to retire before I'm 40 and travel after that
