  • Switching splits... advice please.

I'll try to keep it short and sweet.

    My routine goes as follows:

    Back
    Chest/tri
    Bicep/Shoulder
    Legs

^ Has worked wonders for me, but I've been using it for about a year now. I've heard great things about supersetting splits. If I did switch, I'd be going with an opposite muscle group split. (Chest/Back, etc)

    My two quick questions are:

How often do most of you guys switch up routines?

And what would a four day supersetting split look like? I know the obvious Chest/back, Bicep/Tricep, Legs... but where do I fit in the "other" muscles. How could I turn it into a 4 day split?

    Thanks

I have seen where people did a push/pull routine. Lee Haney use to do chest and back together and super set the exercises like so:

    Bench/ Seated Rows
    Incline/ Pull downs

You could go with the following for a 4 day routine:

    Day1
    Chest/ Back

    Day2
    Legs

    Day3
    Arms

    Day4
    Shoulders

What do you mean by "other" muslces?

I guess I ment shoulders as other... Thanks for the response.

The only thing is that I've heard many people advocate that a shoulder only day is a bad thing... Any opinion on this?

how is it a bad thing? I've worked shoulders on days by themselves w/out any problems .... just be aware of when you do it during the week

        ex:
        chest
        back
        off
        legs
        shoulders
        off
        off

gives you two rest days before and after so you don't overtrain them with other lifts
