  • Gonna Try For 1RM Today..

Anybody have any suggestions on what weight to aim for...how to work up to it?

    Currently I can do this:

Squat 3x8x160 This leaves me pretty close to failure on last rep

Dumbell Bench 3x8x55 Also very close to failure on last rep

Deadlift 3x8x195 Pretty close to failure on last rep

Are you going to do any other exercises or only just these?

      Those plus:

      Flyes
      Military press
      Lateral raises

Wednedays are usually a fairly easy day for me other than the deadlifts so I figured today to be a good day to find my 1RM for use in my upcoming GREEN MAGNITUDE log.

I will assume you have a spotter right?

What is your normall starting weight and progression on the lifts?

          dont' kill yourself aite!?

doing 1rm is pretty dangerous, especially on squats.

I do straight sets, 3 with my working weight. I aim to be close to failure or at with the last rep of the last set. I'll usually do a light warm up with the bar for squats and bench, then jump into the working sets. For deadlifts I do a few reps at 135. then do my working sets.

I do very little warming up because the way my routine is set I'm using a weight thats not real close to my 1RM.

            for example:
            WARMUP: 1x15xBar
Squat 3x8x160 This leaves me pretty close to failure on last rep

            WARMUP: 1x8xBar
Dumbell Bench 3x8x55 Also very close to failure on last rep

            WARMUP: 1x5x135
Deadlift 3x8x195 Pretty close to failure on last rep

Yes, thats another reason I want to do it today. I actually have someone that can spot me.

So are you doing 1RM with DB or BB for Bench?

When "maxing out" I typically make 20 - 50 pound jumps and just keep going until I hit it.

                For example:

                BB Bench:

                Warm up: 45x15, 95x10. 135x8

                225x3, 275x1, 315x1, 365x1, 405x1, 435x1, 455x1

                    Nice!

I've also been a little bit concerned about my one rep maxes. I know a lot of people would be interested in this while frequenting a log, but I don't want to hurt myself because of egos.

I know roughly where my bench and squat stand, but I've got a crappy deadlift because I've yet to go very heavy. Don't kill yourself, Travis. Make sure you have a spotter, especially when you're squatting. The most I've hit was 245lbs for a good 5 reps ass to ground... wanted to go higher and do fewer reps, but I wouldn't attempt anything more unless I was warmed up and feeling very confident.

Good luck on finding your 1rm! Looking forward to reading your Green MAGnitude log and tossing some ideas back and fourth!

                      Ou la la

Just did a quick google search, first thing that came up was BB.com's 1rm calculator. Think this thing's at all accurate? I plugged in a few numbers really quickly and it seems like it's decent for the most part. I have a buddy on MSN tinkering around with it and it doesn't look like it's too inaccurate.

Well I did my maxes and I'm still alive.

                              Bench Press: 185x1

                              Squat: 190x3

                              Deadlift: 275x1

Not too bad I guess. Especially considering I'm 6' tall and only 150lbs.

Heres a pic of the deadlift, which I'm VERY fukin proud of. Theres plenty of people that can bench more and squat more, but I bet there ain't too many with my build that can pull 275, especially after only lifting 6 months. I guarantee a pull of 300lbs ten weeks into my GM log if not sooner... Shit! I'm either gona have to start going to a gym or buy some more weights, I only got 300lbs worth..

My right grip was about to slip here...
